Home Exterior Trends for 2022 and the Best Garage Doors to Match

A lot of people have been spending more and more time at home over the past couple of years. We have the pandemic to thank for that, of course. Because people are spending all of this time at home, it’s caused people to see their surroundings in a new light. A lot of people have decided to make some changes to their homes, such as redoing the exterior. They might even want to redo the garage door to match.

“Feeling good at home has become a priority, so why not renovate or remodel to have everything under the same roof?” – Sarah, owner of Real Architecture.

Consider the Various Architectural Styles

Maybe you are building a new home. Maybe you are renovating your property. Regardless, you will want to have an idea regarding the current style trends, so you can figure out what will work well for your needs and aesthetic sensibilities. Below are four popular styles you can consider.

Consider the Transitional Style

“Homeowners are moving away from a precise style. What they want is a timeless property that will stay elegant and beautiful over time.” – Ashley, from Anne Paquet Design.

The Transitional Style homes work well for those who want a design that will be fashionable for years to come. As such, this style has gained a substantial amount of popularity. It is something of a cross between traditional and modern. One of the other names you might hear this style being called is classic modern.

You will notice a couple of things about this design. For starters, it tends to be relatively simple, and it has symmetrical lines. The colours typically used with this type of design focus on natural shades. These will often be warm white, brown, beige, or gray.

Some of the best options for Transitional Style homes include the Flush or Moderno 2 beads.

What About the Modern Style?

No one wants to live in a plain, boring box. Square houses are out. One of the latest popular trends is to have different proportions with asymmetrical height and depth. It can give the home more personality and energy.

What types of colours work well in the Modern Style? While you could choose just about any color you would like, you will find that the ones that tend to work best are gray, black, and white. You can also add warm, blonde wood inserts or stone accents to make the home appear more inviting.

If you opt for a modern exterior to your home, it simply makes sense that you would want to have a modern garage door, such as the Vog, Moderno multi, or Grooved designs. They generally look good in black, charcoal, or iron ore walnut.

Lots of people love this style because it has such a welcoming look. It’s the type of place people want to spend their time.

With Scandinavian Style homes, you will find that it’s generally natural and warm colors that are used. In some cases, exteriors might even be unfinished and look like natural wood. Various types of garage doors can work with these homes depending on the features. These could include the California, Cambridge CL, Shaker-Modern XL, or Flush garage doors.

Choose from a Range of Colours and Materials

When planning the exterior of your home, you have a lot of options. You can choose from various types of materials and colours for the exterior. There is no “right choice” when it comes to what you choose. You need to find options that will work with the design, your aesthetics, and your budget. Let’s look at some of the options below.

Vinyl, cedar shingles, brick, and stone. All of these options have a lot of potential. Typically, when you are using these materials, you will want to stick to warm, neutral colors. You won’t want to go too bold with the colors.

Fiber cement panels and planks work well for Farmhouse and Scandinavian houses. They can look good, and they are shock-resistant and humidity-resistant due to their composition. They are made from fibers and cement.

Wood inserts. This is a popular option for various exteriors, as they can give a very different, interesting look with little effort. They might be used for dormers or gables, for example. Arches are popular, too.

Don’t Forget About Insulation

This small California all-glass garage door brings a lot of light into the all white office of this lady from Montreal, Canada.

Although the owner knows that these garage doors don’t have the same level of insulation as a standard garage door, they do have a lot of charm. They can be a good option for a host of different purposes thanks to their appearance. They allow in a lot of light and can make an interior space feel larger while giving a full view of the outdoors.

What do you think about the all-glass panoramic garage doors such as the California? We think they look fantastic.

One of the things that you will want to know about the doors is that they are made from aluminum. This makes them a good thermal conductor, which is not good for staying warm. It means that the California doors are not going to provide the high levels of insulation that you can get from steel garage doors insulated with polyurethane foam.

However, they allow for beautiful interiors. Both the steel doors and these aluminum and glass doors have their pros and cons. You will want to find a solution that works well for you.
